Fat Loss and Med dishes

Nowadays food is all about stuffing yourself regardless if it is nutritious or harmful. That should not be the case though, we should try to eat food that helps in fat loss.

A good example of such foods to gain populairity and renown over the fact that it is not being used is…from healtch.org

Famed for keeping people slim, healthy and living longer, the Mediterranean diet has followers all over the world. Cultural treat? Moves are underway to get the Mediterranean diet on UNESCO’s world heritage list. more photos »  However, the diet is being increasingly shunned by people who live in the Med as the convenience of fast food gains popularity. The renowned low-fat, high-fiber diet has “decayed into a moribund state” in its traditional regions, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). So sharp is the decline that governments from the region are scrambling to protect their traditional fare from becoming an “endangered” species. Populations surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, such as Greece, Spain and Italy, tend to eat these foods, and governments there have joined forces to apply for their diet to be placed on the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) Heritage list. Those lobbying for UNESCO protection have argued that its inclusion would ”fend off the watered-down clones assailing its integrity worldwide in this age of killer fast food.” The UNESCO list is famous for including historic and cultural sites but in recent years the UN body has opened its register to include ”intangible heritage,” such as endangered languages or vanishing traditions. “The Mediterranean diet is a heritage that should be protected and shared,” Paolo de Castro, a former Italian Agriculture minister, said earlier this year.”

I hope this gives us all a good motive to induce fat loss.

Rapid Weight loss and Cholestrol Drugs

Judging by recent headlines, you might think so. Last week heart researchers reported that millions of healthy people could benefit from taking statins even if they don’t have high cholesterol. That is a very serious issue for people and they should struggle for rapid weight loss.

From healthfetch.org

“Although many doctors hailed the study as a major breakthrough, a closer look at the research suggests that statins (like Crestor, from AstraZeneca, and Lipitor, from Pfizer) are far from magic pills. While they clearly save lives in people with a previous heart attack or other serious heart problems, for an otherwise healthy person the potential benefit remains small.

Many doctors who believe in using statins for heart disease say they needn’t be given to healthy patients. Instead, they say, the focus should remain on encouraging healthful behavior and screening for traditional risk factors like high blood pressure and cholesterol.

“Statins have many biological effects that appear to be quite meaningful,” said Dr. Valentin Fuster, director of the heart program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan and past president of the American Heart Association. “But I don’t think the answer is a magic drug to prevent disease. The answer is to change behavior.”

Still, the latest study, called Jupiter, is sure to fuel interest in a blood test for something called C-reactive protein, or CRP. The test, which can cost $20 to $50, measures inflammation. Studies have shown that patients with high CRP are at higher risk for heart attack, even if they have normal cholesterol.”

We should all try to work for rapid weight loss.
