JVC GY-HD100
At first glance, the GY-HD100 seems like any other HD video camera, with the usual bounty of switches, dials, and places to input peripherals. Once you turn it on, however, it operates just like a standard definition video camera. You don’t need to do anything special to turn on the HD recording. Simply press a button. The difference comes in the quality of the recording.
One of the most impressive aspects of this camera is the degree to which you have control over your recordings. JVC has really gone above and beyond here: you can record your settings on an SD card, and then move them onto another compatible JVC camera. You can imagine how much this feature will save you.
Another key advantage of the GY-HD100 is the ability to simultaneously save to both the hard disk and the tape you’re recording on. This feature will save you a ton of time editing, as you’ll be able to immediately begin, instead of waiting to capture tape to your computer.
The GY-HD100 can be used on your shoulder, or (preferably), mounted on a tripod. With that said, this camera comes equipped with a thick shoulder pad for your comfort. The fact that the camera is also quite light makes taking shots from off the tripod even easier.
In terms of quality, you won’t believe the recordings that the GY-HD100 is capable of. It’s important to remember that HD video is supposed to look just like real life. This particular camera uses an extended grey scale and a heightened sense of color. The corresponding amount of detail is simply amazing.
